PRNZ FAQs

  • What is PRNZ?

Plastics Recycling New Zealand (PRNZ) is a joint venture between WM New Zealand and Aliaxis, focused on recycling plastic waste and supporting a circular economy. We operate across Aotearoa, processing uPVC and HDPE to create high-quality recyclate for manufacturing. You can learn more about this here.

  • Where does PRNZ operate?

PRNZ has processing facilities in Auckland (Penrose) and Christchurch (Hornby South), serving both the North and South Islands. You can learn more about this here.

  • What industries do you serve?

We provide a reliable, environmentally responsible solution for businesses looking to manage their uPVC and HDPE waste. Industries we serve include:

    • Building & Construction
    • Infrastructure
    • Agriculture
    • Electrical
    • Telecommunications

By collaborating with WM New Zealand and Aliaxis, we are building a robust collection and recycling network to support these industries and reduce waste to landfill.

  • What plastics do you accept?

We recycle a range of construction and industrial plastics, including:

    • uPVC & mPVC – Pipes, spouting, conduit, window frames, cladding (no flexible PVC)
    • HDPE Pipes – Water pipes, drainage culverts, conduit (PE100 & PE80)
    • HDPE Chemical Drums – Triple-rinsed, cut in half
    • Post-Industrial LDPE & HDPE Film (Christchurch only)

You can learn more about this here.

  • What plastics do you NOT accept?

    We do not accept:

    • PET (#1)
    • ABS (#9)
    • Post-consumer plastic film
    • Plastic pallets
    • Oil-contaminated materials

You can learn more about this here.

  • How do I prepare plastics for recycling?

    • uPVC and HDPE pipes must be free from contamination (no rubber seals, metal, or excessive dirt).
    • HDPE chemical drums must be triple-rinsed and have lids, taps, and bungs removed.
    • Large volumes of fittings should be kept separate.
  • How can I recycle my plastic waste with PRNZ?

    • Drop-Off Points: Available in Auckland (Penrose) and Christchurch (Hornby South).
    • Bulk Collection: We work with businesses to arrange pick-ups.
    • Mobile Shredding: We offer mobile shredding solutions to reduce transport costs.
  • Do you offer nationwide collection?

Currently, our focus is on servicing Auckland, Waikato, and Canterbury. For other regions, we can discuss tailored transport solutions.

  • What happens to the recycled plastics?

Our processed recyclate is used to manufacture new pipes and infrastructure materials. We ensure full circularity by keeping plastics in use rather than down-cycling.

  • How is PRNZ supporting sustainability?

We have invested $11.15 million into expanding plastic recycling in New Zealand, supported by a $4.46 million grant from the Plastics Innovation Fund. We also collaborate with researchers and industry leaders to minimise waste in construction and demolition.
