Our Commitment to Sustainability

We're committed to building a circular economy through innovative recycling, resource recovery, industry collaboration, and environmental stewardship.

Through our facilities in Auckland and Christchurch, PRNZ processes thousands of tonnes of plastic annually, helping reduce landfill, support local manufacturing, lower transport emissions and keep valuable materials circulating within New Zealand's economy.

Investing in Recycling

Supported by a grant from the Plastics Innovation Fund, PRNZ is investing in solutions that reduce construction and demolition waste, helping keep valuable materials in circulation across New Zealand.

Collaborating for Impact

  • WM New Zealand collecting plastic waste nationwide.
  • Aliaxis transforming recyclate into new products.
  • Environmental Innovation Centre researching innovative waste solutions.

Nationwide Capability

  • Auckland processing facility provides dedicated North Island recycling capability.
  • South Island collection and processing solutions established, with further expansion planned.
  • Growing uPVC and HDPE recovery networks across both islands to improve national coverage.

FAQs

See our full list of FAQs here.

  • What types of plastics does PRNZ recycle?

We recycle a range of plastic materials including uPVC, HDPE, LDPE and polypropylene (PP). These materials are processed into high-quality recycled resins for manufacturing and other end-use applications.

  • Why was PRNZ established?

PRNZ was created to provide a nationwide recycling solution for rigid plastics, reducing reliance on virgin materials and supporting a circular economy.

  • How does PRNZ recycle plastics?

    Our process includes:

    • Collection & Sorting – Plastic waste is collected and sorted into material types.

    • Shredding & Granulation – Plastics are broken down into smaller, manageable pieces.

    • Washing – Contaminants are removed to ensure high-quality recyclate.

    • Extrusion & Pelletising – Plastics are transformed into resins suitable for manufacturing.

    • Reintegration – Recycled materials are supplied for use in manufacturing applications including pipes, conduits, construction and infrastructure products.

  • Where are PRNZ’s recycling facilities located?

PRNZ North Island Facility is based in Penrose, Auckland. The facility processes post-consumer and industrial plastic waste, producing high-quality recycled materials that support manufacturing, resource recovery and circular economy outcomes across New Zealand.

PRNZ South Island Facility is based in Hornby South, Christchurch. Operating since 2005, the facility processes HDPE, LDPE, polypropylene, and post-consumer bottle streams while producing high-quality recycled resin for manufacturing applications.

  • Who can use PRNZ’s recycling services?

We provide recycling solutions for businesses looking to responsibly manage plastic waste and support resource recovery outcomes.

     Industries we serve include:

    • Building & Construction
    • Infrastructure
    • Agriculture
    • Electrical
